They Say a Picture is Worth 1000 Words...

They say a picture is worth 1000 words. But I've got at least a couple thousand more then that in me. Photographs capture a specific moment in time, a memory, a feeling. So here is my attempt to share my memory of when I took specific photos. Or share the feeling I had when I captured them. Or more likely, detail my failures as I finally stop hiding behind autofocus and learn how to work the expensive (but still very cheap in the camera world) piece of mirrors, glass, metal and plastic that I maxed out a credit card for.

Let's start simple. Meet Bo. Bo is a very handsome Masai giraffe that I had the pleasure of working with at two different Zoo's. Every day at 3, I would grab my little, red cracker bucket and head on over to the Giraffe feeding platform. And every day, my 17 foot tall friend would stick his big head over the railing in hopes I would sneak him yummy rye crisps while waiting for paying customers. So much of photography is luck. Being in the right place at the right time. Clicking your shutter at the right time. So it helps even the odds a bit when you get to be in the right place every single day for 4 years straight. But there are still a lot of variables. I have a hundred and one photos of a giant giraffe face coming at me. But 3pm isn't the best time for sunlight. Bo decided to sneeze or drool. The sky was a sheet of gray or blue. But every day I still took my camera out there. And finally got this beauty.
